What’s your Design Leadership Endgame?
Design leaders sometimes find themselves in a seemingly never-ending uphill battle to “demonstrate value” and “prove return on investment”. The constant fight for the resources you need is exhausting, and it gets old. Whether you are within the design industry, or on the client side, you need a way to vault your team past this messy struggle. Budgets will always have to be negotiated - that won’t end - but there’s a way get past the “show me your worth” conundrum that slows you down.
To get past the slog, as a design leader, you need to choose your endgame, and make a plan to get there. In this presentation, Michelle Miller, principal of Michelle Miller Business Design (MMBD), will share her experience as Associate Director of Design at the Seattle-based Pacific Market International and as Design Advisor at the Australian insurance company, Suncorp. She will discuss the strategic roles design can play in your organization, the challenges you will face in getting there, and some of the design skills you can use to make your leadership more effective. As you work toward your design leadership endgame, you will change the conversation around design from “explain why” (again) to “we need more of what you’ve got”.
