Northwest Film Forum's Annual Design Series
Northwest Film Forum annual ByDesign series brings together a diversity of people, ideas and creative visions to explore intersections of design and film, as we celebrate multidisciplinary artists who transform our visual culture.
This year’s program features new documentary films about the influential, multidisciplinary designers Lella and Massimo Vignelli; legendary film title designer Pablo Ferro; and unique takes on architecture by Rem Koolhaas and Frank Gehry. The program also features Phase IV, directed by acclaimed graphic and film title designer Saul Bass, and a panel discussion with Seattle creatives about the currents of experiential design.
For show times and more, check out www.nwfilmforum.org.
Buy a series pass and see all of the films in ByDesign 13 at a discount: $40/Film Forum, ARCADE and AIGA Members, $60/General.

Opening Night Reception & Screening // Part of ByDesign 13
ByDesign opening night reception, hosted by ARCADE!
Opening night film introduction by Cameron Campbell (Teague, ARCADE Board of Trustees
“If you can’t find it, design it” is the motto of the husband-and-wife designers Lella & Massimo Vignelli. Their New York City subway diagram and signage, American Airlines graphic identity, Heller dishes and countless other graphics, publications, corporate identities, products, packaging, architectural graphics and interior design, have, over the past 40 years, greatly influenced the American design landscape and endure beyond all fads.
Design Is One brings us into the Vignellis’ world, capturing their warmth, intelligence and creativity. The film also includes interviews with architects Richard Meier and Peter Eisenman and graphic designers Milton Glaser, Michael Bierut and Jessica Helfand.
This film is part of ByDesign 13, Northwest Film Forum's annual series exploring intersections of design and film, co-presented with ARCADE and AIGA Seattle.
