2010 AIGA Fellow Award winner: Janet DeDonato

Janet DeDonato is the most recent recipient of the highest honor that AIGA Seattle can give: our AIGA Fellow Award.

Janet has been an active member of the design community in Seattle for decades. Besides being an excellent designer in her own right, she’s also hired, trained, mentored, or worked with many of the design professionals in the area at one time or another during her career.

As a Partner at Methodologie, a firm she co-founded in 1988 (when it was called TeamDesign), Janet has overseen design and strategy work that has been recognized consistently in major national award competitions and in publications such as Applied Arts, AR 100, ARC, Communication Arts, Graphis, Graphic Design USA, LACP, NIRI Seattle, Print Magazine, and Step 100.

Janet has served both as President of the Seattle Chapter of AIGA and on the national Board of Directors for AIGA. She’s judged many design competitions, including AIGA 365, the AR 100, the Mead Show, Communication Arts, and the Seattle Show.

Janet was also the leader of the team who brought Seattle the first Design Camp (now known as “Into the Woods”)—one of our most successful and popular ongoing events (and coming up again this year, October 15–17).  And she’s always supported and promoted AIGA as an important part of a vital design community and a way for designers to build networks.

She’s served on numerous boards and committees, both related to design and to other community groups. And as an investor communications specialist, she’s spoken at conferences, appeared in the media, and has written about investor communications and design.
 

About the AIGA Seattle Fellow Award

The AIGA Fellow program is a means of recognizing seasoned designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within our design community as well as in our AIGA chapter. The nominee must:

• Be a practitioner and/or educator with more than fifteen years experience in the profession.
• Be a member in good standing.
• Have made a significant contribution to AIGA.
• Have made a positive impact within their local or regional design community.
• Have advanced excellence in graphic design as a discipline, profession, and cultural force.
